Sparks IP Contribute to SPIF Initiative

Championing the Standardization of Patent Identification Formats
Sparks IP are pleased to have become a contributor to SPIF (the standardization of patent identification formats). Originally founded by Richardson Oliver Insights, with the collaboration of Cipher, Unified Patents, RPX, Aon and Google Patents, the initiative seeks to standardize patent number formatting to improve identification of assets between platforms, agents and within IP transactions.
The current discrepancies in patent numbering between PTOs, vendor solutions and patent owners' in-house systems can make the identification of assets a minefield in the case of patent analytics, IP commercialisation and re-assignment. SPIF has identified a way to convert patent numbers to a standard format for use with the solutions provided by all the collaborators and offer a free tool to help with the conversion.
The SPIF group, now made up of 18 supporting members including Sparks IP, will continue to refine what they consider the ideal, unified format in conjunction with contributions from experienced members of the IP community.

Sparks IP's Founder & Managing Director, Clio Davies, was recently interviewed by The Patent Lawyer Magazine for their segment "Women in IP Leadership". Clio spoke about her career as an IP professional, the challenges she has faced and the changes she would like to see in the industry to better support diversity and inclusion.
